It's not that hard to reverse or prevent Type 2 Diabetes, you just have to know what to do.
And you have to believe there's hope. Otherwise, why would you bother?
My
husband's family includes:
- a
surgical-nurse-turned-cancer-care-specialist sister-in-law
- a former
medical-lab-technologist-turned-elementary-school-teacher
brother-in-law
- a
science-agricultural-degree-teaches-at-a-university sister-in-law
Me? I have high school and a smattering of university courses.
And when I said, "Hey, good news! They've figured out now that you can both prevent and even reverse Type 2 Diabetes!", silly me, I was actually expecting a response of "What? Really? Who says? How do you know that? That would be great!" I mean, isn't it great news that you don't have to have Type 2 Diabetes and all the complications that come along with it? Wouldn't YOU want to know if it's actually true that you CAN get better from diabetes? I know I would. |
But instead, I got a response of, "That's not true." "That's not what we were taught." "My friend is doing everything she can and it's not helping." "It's not so-and-so's experience." "Prove it."
I was shocked that these science types were so closed-minded!
If it's science and sound medical advice that you want, take a look at the experts below. These are some of the ones I hear saying, "Yes, you can get better from Type 2 Diabetes!"
- Dr. Sara Gottfried, Harvard trained MD and gynecologist
- Dr. Mark Hyman, practicing family physician and director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine
- Dr. David Unwin - a
partner at the Norwood surgery in Southport (England) since 1986, a GP
Trainer since 1992, elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of
General Practice for his work in using hope as part of the consultation
(very interesting!) he is a RCGP National Champion for Collaborative
Care and Support Planning in Obesity and Diabetes and an RCGP Clinical
Expert in Diabetes
- Dr. David Perlmutter, a
Board-certified neurologist, Fellow of the American College of
Nutrition, and Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller
School of Medicine
as well as
- Dave Asprey, the Bulletproof
Coffee guy
- Dr. Brenda Watson, naturopathic doctor
- Dr. Natasha Turner, naturopathic doctor
- J.J. Virgin, author
And more - these are just a few experts that I'm aware of. Science and medicine continues to evolve, why not take advantage of the cutting edge information and help that is out there? You can stop the diabetes train wreck, but you do need to inform yourself and be willing to make the changes in your life you need to make.
There is nothing more frustrating than doing everything you know to do, and your body still isn't healing. Being sick is discouraging, disheartening and disempowering. You do everything you know to do, but it's still not working. You become angry and perhaps depressed. But doing everything you know to do |
In his book, "The Blood Sugar Solution", Dr. Mark Hyman tells a story of one of his patients who, in his own opinion, really was faithfully doing everything she needed to be doing to stabilize her blood sugar, yet without success. He said, "When you're doing everything right, and it's still not working, then you need to look for toxins in the body." In this case, removing old mercury fillings that were leaking solved the problem, and her blood sugar levels leveled out. And you say, "What does a mercury filling have to do with blood sugar levels and insulin?" But there it is. That's what worked. |
Everyone believes they're right. Anyone you speak with, whether a friend or a doctor, will tell you what they believe to be true. They're not trying to trick you.
But at the end of the day, the person that is responsible for your health is YOU. It falls on YOU to be informed, to look at your options, to observe the different results and make YOUR choices.
If you're a reader, books are a great source of information. The information in books is much more comprehensive and complete than the information you can get on a web page.
My daughter-in-law is a great one for doing research online. We were talking one day about an issue with her three-year-old, and I said, "You know, you should really read a BOOK on this."
The look she gave me said, "What? A book? I don't want to read a book. Why would I read a book?" I can give you information, tips and even maybe some recipes, but no website can possibly be as complete as a book. And when you read a book, you know who's doing the talking. If you've chosen your book well, you can be confident that you are receiving wise counsel. | |
If "I don't have time to read!" - hey, place it in the bathroom or read your book during TV commercials, do what you have to do! In the meantime. . . |
There are some food choices you can make that are guaranteed to help move you towards better health and vitality, no matter where your health is at. Some foods - well - maybe they're best avoided! (Why Can't I Eat What I Grew Up Eating?)
When it comes to preventing and reversing diabetes, it's crucial to balance your hormones, such as leptin, grehlin, insulin and cortisol. To do this, it's important to eat the right balance of protein, carbohydrates and good fats. A low carbohydrate high fat diet gives you this balance. It definitely helps to regulate your blood sugar levels, and some nice things that happen are that you won't keep getting that mid-afternoon slump, or that snacky craving "what-can-I-eat-right-now" feeling in the evenings. Take a look at what a low carbohydrate high fat diet can do for you and for Type 2 Diabetes.
What About You?Are you just starting on this journey? What progress have you seen? |
