Being better-not sick- have you ever thought that your expectations of getting better - or even not getting better might affect your outcome?
Expectations play a bigger part in whether you are better-not sick - than you have ever thought.
I once heard a speaker who spoke about expectations who, during his talk, told a few stories involving doctors, patients and expectations.
One was about a man who in hospital in New Orleans. He was dying, but no one could figure out why. He refused to speak to anyone and just lay in the bed, fading away.
The frustrated doctor said to him, "If we can't figure out what's wrong with you, you're going to die!"
The patient finally spoke up saying, "I know what's wrong and I am going to die."
"Why do you think that?" asked the doctor.
Then came a story of an angry wife paying a witch doctor to curse him so he would die. When the husband found out, he believed that would happen and that nothing could be done.
The doctor was a bit taken back, but came up with a plan. With a trusted friend, he
cleared out a storage room and got a Bunsen burner from the medical lab
whose "only redeeming quality was that it burned with an eerie blue
flame" and set up some candles, doing this on a Friday evening.
He and his friend proceeded to move the sick man - bed and all, into the storage closet. They said, "We know how to cancel this curse. But there's one condition. It will only work if you never, ever tell anyone about this. If you tell anyone at all, it will not work and you will die." Truth is, he didn't want his colleagues finding out!
The man readily agreed, and the two men, the doctor and his friend, stood over him said some kind of gibberish blah blah and then said, "There. The curse is broken and you'll get better now. But remember - you can't tell anyone or it won't work!"
And the man got better. He completely recovered and was sent home - no one but this doctor knowing why.
The speaker continued. "Expectations, expectations, expectations", he said.
Or so says Louise Hay in her book. It's about the connection between how you think and feel and your health. I recommend this book, you can find it on Amazon. I keep going back to it all the time.
The more I learn about the body and the brain, it seems apparent that everything can heal. Neural pathways in the brain can develop as a result of new habits, even new blood vessels developing around the heart due to exercise! Our bodies are truly amazing.
But not everyone gets better. Why not? What makes the difference?
I could not ever hope to adequately answer such a question. I do have a few thoughts, however, and one of them is about "Expectations". Your expectations. What are you really expecting to happen? What words come out of your mouth regarding your condition? What are your thoughts saying?
This isn't about positive thinking. It's about that deep down belief that includes what you truly think, feel and believe about the possibility of being better-not sick.
Proverbs 23:7 in the Bible says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he."
The Bible records God as saying "My people perish for lack of knowledge." Knowledge gives you the awareness of the possibilities. Knowledge shows you what is possible. Knowledge can give you a road map how to get the results you're truly wanting to have in your life, being better-not sick. This applies to health or any other area.
This is what this website is about - being better-not sick. Along with beliefs and attitudes, I believe that diet makes a huge difference to our health. With all the changes in the food supply, we can't just eat the way we grew up eating, or how our parents ate. The hot dog we eat today is not the same as the hot dog I fed my kids or the hot dog I ate as a child. Even Heinz Ketchup isn't the same!
Your body is designed to be healthy. You need to stop inputting the bad and instead put in good! And the one person to make those changes is - You! Expect it to make a difference. I know it does.
And you'll start on your own fun and exciting journey to being better-not sick.
